The KFEC1.5 LARGE ECOCONCEPT is a furler that withstands a workload of 1.5 T. It is intended for sailboats from 25 to 35 feet. The KFEC1.5 LARGE is a 3rd generation Karver furler. With this EcoConcept version, we have sought to significantly reduce the environmental impact of this furler. This development is mainly due to our patent on the toothed wheel made of composite materials. On this version, the carbon is replaced by flax fiber. To complete the process, the plastics are bio-sourced (also linen) and we replaced the anodized aluminum fork with a molded stainless steel fork that uses less raw material and significantly extends the life of the product. .
This furler is fitted as standard with a notched flax fiber wheel, a reinforced ABS casing protected by K Krok neoprene protection, our 2-in-1 K Snap carabiner, our remote locking system for the notched wheel and a stainless steel swivel also protected by our K Krok shock protection. This wide version reduces the efforts on the line when furling. Many options are available to make it unique and perfectly suited to your needs. Your furler can also store an asymmetrical spinnaker if you equip it with the KTS adapter.
The KFEC1.5 LARGE ECOCONCEPT is delivered with a turret and its swivel. It allows additional so-called "flying" sails such as a gennaker, a code 0, a staysail, etc. to be furled in complete safety from the cockpit. It is also possible to store an asymmetrical spinnaker by fitting it with our adapter KTS.
For more than 15 years, Karver has been shaking up the market by regularly offering new innovations. We are at the origin of the remote locking systems of the toothed wheel, the system of quick installation of the line, the captive quick axles, friction sheaves with quick axles, carbon casings, ... and we are best known for offering the lightest and most compact furlers on the market. This is why we are very present on board offshore racing yachts and on board the most efficient yachts such as the Imocas, which are equipped by more than 70% of our furlers. This EcoConcept version makes no concessions on performance. At Karver, eco-design means no loss of performance or functionality and no price increase.

Strengths
Major innovations:
– The EcoConcept version greatly reduces the impact of the furler on the environment… without loss of performance and without price increase.
– Toothed wheel in flax fibers > Resistance, better grip, less wear, aesthetics, weight saving, customization options. The weight gain allowed us to reinforce more essential mechanical elements.
– Karver Snap (K Snap) 2 in 1 > Carabiner + friction sheave 2:1 > Very compact & resistant. The only carabiner on the market to really hold the total load. The friction sheave will be particularly useful for positioning your furler on a bowsprit in complete safety. From KF8.0, the K Snaps are replaced by lashing eyes.
– The K Kroks are silicone anti-shock protections that we have installed as standard on the ABS housings and the swivels of the Standard, Classic and Structural versions. These new ergonomic protections will effectively protect the boat (hull, deck, mast, etc.) and the furler itself.
– Aesthetics: Linen fiber and stainless steel blend perfectly.
– The use of stainless steel clevises significantly extends the service life of the furler. If your sail is not equipped with suitable thimbles but with simple stainless steel rings, the stainless steel clevis is definitely a smart choice. A stainless steel ring in an aluminum screed quickly causes major damage: deformations, corrosion, etc.
Other new features:
– Wide toothed wheel available for KF1.5, KF3.0: More torque for less effort and more power….
– Use of linen-sourced organic plastics.
– New system for opening quick-release captive shafts that is more ergonomic, more reliable and easier to clean.
– Replaced swivel shackles with lashing eyes. More compact, lighter and more resistant.
– Possibility of adding a wood veneer on the toothed wheel
– Even more performance:
o Lighter
o More compact (K Snap and swivel lashing eyes)
o More resistant (New structure)
o Easier to use (new bearings low friction / new quick axles / Snap)
o Easier to maintain (new design)
– Reinforcement of the toothed wheel remote locking system. Possibility of not ordering this standard accessory.
– Definitely the best quality / price ratio on the market
Karver standards retained
– Automatic “unseating” of the line when it is not under tension: limits wear, avoids burning your fingers.
– Quick installation of the line
Tips
– A furler is a comfort and safety device. It allows you to furl and unfurl your sail from the cockpit.
– Sails on a furler are called “flying” because, unlike a genoa, they are not intended to remain in place all the time. They are usually put away at the end of use or at the end of the day.
– A sail on a furler cannot be used partially furled, unlike a genoa on a furler. It is totally rolled or unrolled.
– The use of stainless steel clevises significantly extends the service life of the furler. If your sail is not equipped with suitable thimbles but with simple stainless steel rings, the stainless steel clevis is definitely a smart choice. A stainless steel ring in an aluminum clevis does great damage quickly: deformations, corrosion, etc.
– This reference includes a turret equipped with a K Snap + a swivel equipped with a lashing eye + 1 removable automatic lock + 1 friction ring open to properly align the line + 1 neoprene storage bag + the manual
– Not delivered: The line (manoeuvre rope), the anti-twist rope (Installed and delivered with the sail), the thimbles (installed and delivered on the anti-twisting rope) twist). All this equipment is available in the options list.
– If you use the furler with a bowsprit, you can use the K Snap as a 2:1 tackle. The tackle will save you from acrobatic maneuvers and allow you to bring the furler easily back on deck. For sails that need more tension (Code 0 for example), we also recommend replacing the K Snap with a 3:1 friction sheave.
– If you have any doubts about the compatibility of our K Snap or our swivel with your attachment point, do not hesitate to ask us for advice by giving us the brand and the reference (or the dimensions).
– Our automatic turret lock is a comfort feature. It helps to avoid untimely unwinding of the sail if you do not secure the sail. It also allows the sail to be furled with one hand. The lock disassembles without tools in seconds. If you haven't taken the time to read the operation manual, disconnect it for use without a lock.
– It is rare to install a UV strip on a flying wing which is not intended to stay in place. If, however, a UV strip is provided, it must be installed on the starboard side. If you use a sail with a UV strip on the port side, contact us so that we can offer you a part that will solve this problem.
– Most of our furlers can be ordered with a “drum” option. This option is usually reserved for fixed (Solent) or semi-fixed (staysail) sails with short legs. This option is not suitable for sails with very large overlaps (edge).
